hey annarborites!

i lived in the ann arbor area (read: just over the border in ypsilanti) for 5yrs, i alternately loved it, hated it, and loved it again. now i live in sterling va (yes, though far west it's still part of nova) and am a ms bioinformatics grad student at gmu. i miss a2! there is nowhere to walk around in nova like there is in a2, if you want to talk and be in a city (though granted alot more of a city than a2) then you have to go into dc...which isn't all bad. but i miss the lesbian bakeries and independent coffeeshops and yummy food on main street.

cya :)

i just moved to ann arbor and am finding the same thing - i sometimes love it, sometimes hate it. i am trying to find my niche here, but it has been hard so far. maybe this will change in time, though. but i guess there are worse places to live. any suggestions from anyone on things i need to do or people i should meet would be greatly appreciated. we should have a tribe.net happy hour sometime, grab a few beers, etc. sean duffy

      hey sean,

you look alot like brian greene, author of 'elegant universe', in one of your pics :)
well, i'd recommend big pieces of french toast on sunday brunch from cafe zola, chorizo omelete(sp?) from prickly pear, cosmo's from that martini bar across from those lofts, and french vietnamese aulait from sweetwater. that's all i can think of off the top of my head :)

in the summer you should be sure to go running or bike riding in that park near the um hospital, lots of attractive people usually all sweaty ;)

oh! and be sure to go to some of the summer festival shows in the power center :) if you aren't familiar with any of the shows then i recommend the political satire of 'capital steps', they are _hilarious_ :)

      enjoy!

hey, thanks for the advice. unfortunately, during most of the summer, i will be in kyoto, japan (not an altogether bad place to be, I have to admit...) so I'll maybe miss out on the sweaty hot people running along the lake. just my luck. but i'll try the french toast and all those other suggestions - i've had none of them yet, and have been here 5 months, so i need to get cracking. good luck in va! sean

          Why in Kyoto?
I grew up in Ann Arbor, but i work in Japan now (not so far from Kyoto) as an English teacher.

i'll be in kyoto to do research - i work at the research center for group dynamics at the institute for social research, and i conduct studies on cross-cultural differences in cognition. so i work at a laboratory at kyodai, and have a grant to go there this summer. will you be there in june-august? where do you live near kyoto? i've lived in japan for a total of about a year over the past few years, and know the area well.
